Gabriella Delgado, Historian 2021-2022
Initial Letter
Coming into Junior year hit me like a truck. Over summer I really had to sit down for a moment at take in that I am now an upperclassmen and before I will know it, I will be applying for colleges soon. None of my classmates could believe it either. We have not had a single full year of high school, and now we are taking our SATS, getting jobs, getting our license, and looking at what to major in.
Although it really is a shock, I have never been in a higher place. I feel as if I have everything together at the moment. I had gotten a job, I am getting my license, I have amazing friends, my relationships with my family is amazing, and honestly what else can I ask for? I have come back to leadership to grow even more and take steps into a higher place than I am now. Last year, I decided to take a step back and explore other classes. Although they were good to me, they weren’t the same. I needed the involvement that Leadership provided me and I needed the self awareness and the sturdiness that I had felt Freshman year. It really has impacted me for the better.
Core camp was a great experience. I do wish that it was normal times and we were back at UC Santa Cruz walking 12,000 miles and eating some pretty bomb food from the cafeteria. I feel as if it really sunk into our brains because it was a full trip where we really learned what it was like to be a leader. This year was definitely different but they teachers still did a great job of making it entertaining and informative.
I really want to make this year the best yet. Class of ‘23 and the best, first actual year. I really want to leave my mark. I have been talking to my class and they are so ready to just have events and get out there. I wanted to tell them that its going to happen and that we will have these events but I thought back to the lesson that Norm had taught during Core Camp, which was to know your audience. I don’t want to get their hopes up so I just said what everyone one has been saying for the past year “We will see what happens”. With that, I cant wait to see what the future holds for the Class of ‘23 and our school.
Quotes
Proverbs 4:22- “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
I love this quote. Especially as a teenage, people where their heart on their sleeve a little too much, and those are the people that always get hurt. Like the quote said, you should guard your heart because it is the most precious thing, but also the most fragile. If more people guarded their heart, people would have a different mindset on thing and would live a happier life free of disappointing heart break.
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be faced until its changed” - James Baldwin
I feel as if this quote needs to be told to everyone. There is some situations where people need to learn that you cannot do anything about it and stop trying. We cannot have it all and that is just life. But there is also situations that neeed to be challenged instead of just sitting back and hoping it will change itself. There needs to be a balance, and as soon as everyone figures out that balance, things would be so much more controlled and organized.
“Happiness is a direction not a place” - Sydney J Harris
THIS! I adore this quote so much. When people say money can’t buy you happiness those are the people that don’t understand happiness either. Happiness cannot be defined into one thing. Happiness is a direction and in the direction you can find multiple things that make you happy not just one thing that will fulfill your happiness. Its about being happy about the steps you are taking not what objects or treats you are getting from those steps.

Quotes p.2
“If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.”- Dolly Parton
I used this specific quote to open up the start of the legacy pages in the Scrapbook because I was so drawn to it. Not only if your legacy inspires others but it should inspire others or else it's not a legacy that is effective. This can encourage other students to strive towards this type of legacy by reflecting it in their leadership. This quote can also be set as a reminder. Does it inspire others to dream more? Does it inspire others to learn more? Does it inspire others to do more and become more? We are asked every year at the end what a legacy means to us and this quote entitles that for me.

Goals
Leadership
I want to make the best scrapbook yet. I have the experience from yearbook for layouts and picture ratios to the page that will really help out. I want it to be amazing and I am so determined to make it that way.
I want to hopefully understand what I want to do as a career a little better. Especially with these mock interview this year, I feel as if it will guide me into the right direction. Depending on the person I get
Short term
I want to break our highschool throwing record for track and field. I am so close to beating both shit and disc and I truly beleive that it will happen next year during our spring season. I love this sport so much and finally breaking it would be such a huge accomplishement for me.
I want to graduate highschool with a 4.0+. All my life I have tried my best in my academics and always have gotten a 4.0 or higher. Lasting all the way to highschool would be a really special experience for me because it shows that I have worked hard and gave my schooling my all for 12 consecutive years.
Lifelong
I want to have a job in criminology or law. Growing up in a heavy law enforcement family I feel like its just in my blood to go into that field. I also found it very interesting and grew up watching documentaries and 60 minutes with lester holt with my grandma. It’s the path I want to take so in the future I want it to come true.
I hope to be successful enough in life where I can travel to every single state and every continent, minus maybe Anartica. There is so much to see in the world so why limit yourself? I can’t wait for what the future holds for me.

With my leadership goal. I think I met it. I love the way that it turned out and I was super duper proud of it. Also, Mock interviews are coming up and I chose a JAG officer for the Air Force. I am super excited to just ask questions and see if that is the path that I would like to go.
I am so close to beating the record. I hit a PR shot and am 2 and a half inches away. I am determined to hit it and I really do believe that it will happen by the end of the year. I have been wanting this since Freshman year. I still have decent grades but I am barely getting over a 4.1 right now. Junioritis is severe and I need to snap out of that mindset before senior year.
I have made progress with this because I have chosen a person in that field for my mock interview and that will educate me more for which field I would prefer. I still have not been able to travel, except for Hawaii this school year because I have been so busy. I am planning on traveling senior year hopefully because there is just so much to see.

Article: Who is Gabby Delgado?
Gabby Delgado is a Junior at Ripon High. Basically born and raised here she knows the ins and outs of the town, which means being involved and giving back as much as she can. She has been involved in many things on and off campus consisting of playing multiple school sports, clubs, Ap courses, stats and photography for football, leadership, yearbook, JPA, and a job at a near by Coffee chain. Although balancing all of this may be hard, it is all worth it "Given that this is my Junior year of high school and that past two years have just absolutely flown by, I wanted to make sure I got involved in as much activities as possible. Luckily I have amazing people that support me in all that I do." In the future she plans to go to a four year and use her 4.2 gpa to as much to her advantage as possible. She hopes to study either criminology, law, or social science but still unsure of a career so far. "There is so much pressure on students to know exactly what you want to study and do for the rest of your life as a junior that it can be very stressful," Gabby states speaking of her experience with the pressure of college. As it gets closer to the end of her high school career, she hopes that she makes a long lasting impact on this campus and the people on it. "I have spent the last three years on this campus an there is no other high school I would rather be at"
Role Model- My Dad
My provider, my right hand man, my own blood, my parent, my dad. The person that has single handidly made me a better person and who I am today. My dad is so hardworking and such a loving human being. He works almost every single day, partaking in long shifts, and that does not including the overtime he takes on. He is a police officer in Dublin and although his life in the streets is fortunately behind him he still is trying to make the community a better place by making sure the next generation of police officers are up to standard. The best part is that my fathers personality has not only touched me but everyone that knows him always laughs and says only good things about him. He is not one of those people who is not different at home compared to out and about with people. One of my dads best qualities is giving advice and making anyone happier no matter the situation. Whenever I am sad or having a rough time he is always there to make me feel better. He is a single-father of two adults and that cannot be easy. I am very grateful for my dad and I am very blessed to be his daughter.

Inner Animal- Wolf
I struggled with the concept of an inner animal, becasue I truly couldn’t pick just one that embodied me. I had a little assistance from an online quiz to help me out, I don't think its cheating, it's more like using resources. In the website, after I answered multiple questions about different scenarios and how I would react, it gave me the answer that I was in fact a wolf. It states, “The power of the wolf brings forth instinct, intelligence, appetite for freedom, and awareness of the importance of social connections. When the wolf shows up in your life, pay attention to what your intuition is telling you.” Now this was very accurate in my eyes. Need for social connection, appetite for freedome, trusting intuition, are all things I value. I would also consider myself very loyal, and I keep those who have showed loyalty back very close. Now, this might be seen as pack mentality but thats where the idea of a wolf for my inner animal gets shaky. I thrive on my independence. I would much rather work with myself and have an occasional person to bounce back to, but my social battery drains very fast. I love me some social gatherings but once this batter needs to be charged it needs to leave. I really like the idea of a wolf though. In different perspectives, I can totally see it as my inner animal.

The Best Things about Me
The Impact of Sound and Words
"Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin
Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now
don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
Oh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh don't worry, be happy
Here I give you my phone number, when you worry, call me, I make you happy, don't worry, be happy)
Don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no gal to make you smile
Don't worry, be happy
'Cause when you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
Now there, is this song I wrote
I hope you learned note for note
Like good little children, don't worry, be happy
Now listen to what I said, in your life expect some trouble
When you worry you make it double
But don't worry, be happy, be happy now
don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
don't worry, don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, don't do it, be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) put a smile in your face
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't bring everybody down like this
don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) it will soon pass, whatever it is
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) I'm not worried, I'm happy
The song “Dont worry, Be happy” is not only a reminder to me but also a great song. Especially in this verse it states, “Now listen to what I said, in your life expect some trouble, When you worry you make it double.” There is going to be inevitable bumps that hit you in life, and if you are worried about them that it doubles your stress. I know especially with me I stress the smallest things that in reality arent worth the energy. This song reminds me to take a step back and to not worry and then my mood would be a lot better. I know a lot of people that should stop and listen to this song a few times a day because they are always frantic. Don’t worry, Be happy my friends.

Favorite Memories of Leadership
Leadership is full of many core memories. Especially since I have been in the program for 3 years now, the fun, hilarious, staple memories of not only the class itself but my highschool memories keep piling up. One memory from this year that I remember vividly is during Core Camp. We were doing an activity outside and I honestly don’t remember the name of it. I believe it was along the lines of “Egg, Chicken, Ninja, Wizard” or something along those lines. It was so hot outside, and I remember that everyone was sweating as they were acting as an egg, it was funny to watch from the sideline and slowly start seeing people de-evolving and evolving again, but de-evolving some more. That was one of the first true bonding experiences that we had with this years group and it was hilarious.
Another memory that I have is selling Cool Hand Luke tickets with my designated group. It was also very hot that day, and we were all packed into Avery’s little grey car. We would all take turns walking up to the door and giving our spiel to the potential buyer. Some people turned us down, but there were two people that I distinctly remember who were buyers. One of them was this old man that didn’t even here out our explanation of what the tickets were and just went inside and grabbed money and bought them. We were all really shocked. Another guy was going to buy two tickets, but changed his mind to three, then four, then five, and then bought six tickets from us! After that we headed home because it was getting way to hot and we sold most of them.
The last memory out of many that I will describe is during homecoming when we were building the float. I usually host float decorating at my house, but it was kind of difficult this year because I had gotten a job. I was not able to be at my house but we really needed to finish the float, so I put trust in my class to be at my house with no supervision, none of my family was home either. So off to work I went. I came back finally, after like 5 hours and they completed the entire thing. I was really proud of them and they all cleaned up their mess before they left the house. Our float turned out really good and I was super relieved and happy.

Peer Reflection- April Yan There are many great individuals in our leadership class that due things every day to help other people, and they get overlooked. One person that I know is always there for everyone and especially me is April Yan. April and I have known each other since Kindergarden and have been friends ever since. We were instantly besties because we were the only kids in our little kindergarden class that read chapter books, and we kind of made a bond over that. Since day one she has always held out a helping hand.
Just one of the reasons why she is truly the best, is that she is caring to everyone around her. Sometimes, in the morning, I do not eat breakfast because I am in a rush to get to zero period in the morning, and by second period, my stomach is yelling at me. She has a designated pocket full of snacks for anyone that needs something to eat. She is basically a mom, but in the best way possible. She has stayed up late working with me, she has proof read many of my essays, and gave me advice when no one else would have listened. For example, it was homecoming season and I was hosting. There was a lot of painting that we needed to do, because the parade was coming up and fast. She stayed until her mom wouldn’t let her anymore and we painted until our wrists were sore, just me and her. I am so grateful for her, in more ways than she knows. There isn’t just one specific story that makes me grateful its a combination of every single time she has held out a helping hand. |
Pride
Hobbies
Some of the hobbies that I enjoy doing are taking pictures and playing sports. Both of these things have been a huge part of my life, and I love using my free time to be able to do these. Both of these hobbies are my outlets in different ways. Sports allows me to be clear of my mind and thought for a little while and just be focused on the game. I love and thrive on competition and it also keeps me healthy and physically and mentally strong. Photography is also something that I love to do. There is no better feeling than capturing THAT perfect photo because there will be no space of time or moment that will be the same as that one ever again. I also think it is important to put your time into something that you actually enjoy doing, otherwise its a waste. With what I do, not only do I absolutely love it but it benefits me as who I am in many ways.
Letter to Parents
Dear Parents,
There isn’t enough words to describe how thankful I am for you guys. You have set up a life for me to be as successful as possible, and I know how lucky I am to have that. I have been supported, loved, and pushed in the best way to become who I am. Although, sometimes the high expectations of me are kind of overwhelming, I know it’s only because you want me to push myself to my limits (in sports and academics). Like all teenage and parent relationships, we have our tense moments but we always get over it eventually. I am os grateful that you guys forced me into sports, which might be weird to say but honestly I am glad you did becasue it contains some of my favorite memories. I don’t know what the future will hold for me but I do know that you guys will be right by my side supporting me.
Your daughter,
Gabby

True Legacy
Dear Future Historian,
Congratulation you have been selected for one of the most fun, engaging, and creative jobs in the leadership class. In this position you will be busy, stressed, entertained, and challenged, but the end result is most definitely worth it. Some advice going into this is to definitely do not procrastinate. Starting early and being consistently on top of it is going to be your Best Friend. It also the most logical way to go about it. While Taking pictures, it is best to make a separate album wear you can instantly transfer them to, to later upload to the Shutterfly Website. Sometimes the pictures that you take will be a lot so I recommend getting more storage or deleting them as soon as you are sure they are uploaded. One of the biggest challenged was figuring out Shutterfly itself. Often when are looking for a certain embellishment to go on the page to make the vibe that it is giving it will not pop up. The actual icons are very limited on the website so you have to come up with different designs to fill the space. If you are unable to attend the events that you need pictures of it is important to ask your classmates for help. Next year, something I would do differently is rent a camera from yearbook to use. Although my phone camera did amazing, an actual camera would make a huge difference in quality. I would also be more strict with peoples scrapbook days. It is just so much easier when people don’t switch days and you have to worry about giving them the password. Within all of this stuff, you will have tons of fun. It is a really flexible job that allows you to help the busier position of the class also. It is really rewarding at the end of the year to flip through the book and see your creation. You will do great, and don’t hold back on your designing.
Sincerely,
The Previous Historian

Although my phone camera did amazing, an actual camera would make a huge difference in quality. I would also be more strict with peoples scrapbook days. It is just so much easier when people don’t switch days and you have to worry about giving them the password. Within all of this stuff, you will have tons of fun. It is a really flexible job that allows you to help the busier position of the class also. It is really rewarding at the end of the year to flip through the book and see your creation. You will do great, and don’t hold back on your designing.
Sincerely,
The Previous Historian

Leadership training with Norm
Leadership training with Norm was one for the books. I don’t ever remember experiencing an Encore during my Freshman year, so it was nice to have. It really showed not only our growth from the idea we had pre school year and how we executed them, but also what we didn’t do and what we had to work on. I think that is very important in the outside world as well; reflection. Knowing what we could have done differently and how we can make it better next time was a learning experience we all needed. I personally grew especially when we did the awards. It was a award that was more on the personal side instead of joking around and I feel like that was important. Norm is such an amazing person, teacher, and leader that him coming to our campus, made our class one of the best leadership classes to come.
Leadership Interviews
Although it is a nerve wracking thing to do. Interviews are what prepare you for your future the most. This year especially taught me that things won’t always go the way you think and you have to adapt, communicate, and go with the flow. Being in a professional settings with your friends isn’t always easy but it is good roleplay for the future when you are in front of your future boss. I really enjoy the interviews because after it makes me feel good, like I just accomplished something huge. Mock Interviews are going to also be a huge learning too for my future and I am so excited for that.

Change
This year for me as a leader has been great. I think this year has not only pushed my leadership abilities but my creative side as well. Being apart of making the scrapbook is not just making cute pages with designs but delegating those pages, making sure they are done, and making sure they are done right. A time of lack of efficiency for me was definitely trying to be 10 places at once but realistically not being able to do so. Especially during homecoming dn trying to build a page for each class, I need them to take pictures for me because I am unable to. While some people did, many did niot so it was a hard scramble to look for an picture I could for those events. Luckily, I remembered my job description which allows me to be in contact with yearbook and I was able to borrow some of their pictures that they captured and place them on the pages. I have gotten better with gathering pictures and delegating picture taking to people I know I can trust. I think a change for our future leadership classes would be communication days. Now what I mean by that is days dedicated to saying what needs to be better, who is taking on all the work, who is doing great, which area of our class needs and extra hand, etc. We shoukdn’t say it outloud because some people are not comfortable with that but instead write it on a piece of paper and turn in into the ASB president or Morty so they can see what the leadership class’s communication is and how ist going. Or, some days we can get in classes and commissioners and sit in a circle and just have a moment of communication in where they are at, and what needs to be done. Usually when we try to communicate with eachother it gets lost in translation because we are doing 100 different things, but setting aside a time to do it would benefit us.From their we can improve on things that we need to.
Ideal Leader
An ideal leader to me is someone that is an example for others and inspires others to be the best version of themselves. They are interactive, involved, open, honest and fun. The ideal leader in leadership would make an effort to connect with everyone in the classroom in some way, meet their deadlines, and be a helping hand to others while still being spirited and having fun. It's a balance of being a hard worker and still being able to enjoy highschool. They would reach out beyond the leadership class to the student Body for opinions and ideas outside of the brains of ASB kids. A leader can be a leader in a classroom and on a team, but with that comes great responsibility and time management skills. Lastly, the ideal leader is someone that people want to be more like and what they want to work up to or even be better than.
